The Vydubychi Church Chorus was founded in 1999 in Kyiv, Ukraine, at the beginning of revival of Ukrainian Orthodoxy.It was one of the first church choirs in Kyiv to reinstate the singing of divine liturgies in Ukrainian.
The sacred music of the Divine Liturgy sung by the Vydubychi Church Chorus in this recording has many different Ukrainian composers, many of whom were closely tied to ecclesiastical life, being themselves priests or church choir conductors.
Ukraine has a heritage of church music spanning many centuries, and it achieved fame among the Slavic nations for its majestic and melodious church singing.
